Dallas Burrow

New Braunfels native Dallas Burrow has always paid tribute to his musical lineage, often sharing a stage story about his father, Mike Burrow, who once hosted Townes Van Zandt in Nashville in the early '70s. This legendary encounter, which included the four men becoming "Blood Brothers," deeply connected the younger Burrow to Van Zandt's music.

This touching history inspired the title track of Burrow's stellar 2023 album, Blood Brothers. Encouraged by producer Jonathan Tyler, Burrow turned the story into a song that serves as the album's guiding philosophy: honoring his deep musical roots while embracing his present duties as a husband and father.

The emotive title track uses his father's tale as a starting point, but its true power is Burrow's sober, personal reflection. Now four years sober and a family man, Burrow brings a new clarity to his songwriting, redefining what it means to be an artist.

"From my perspective in this day and age, you don't have to sacrifice your whole life and your body, living hard in order to create good music and be a real artist," Burrow explains. "On Blood Brothers, I'm paying homage to tradition while at the same time embracing what is also important to me in my life as a family man, a present father modeling a healthier lifestyle for my son.”

This dual perspective—honoring the past (even covering one of his dad's tunes) while looking forward—is evident throughout the record, including on standout tracks like the optimistic, honky-tonk-blues flavored “Out My Window.” The album offers deeply personal stories sung with a universal hope, making it a relatable anthem for anyone looking for light during downtrodden times.

For Burrow, the album's message was crystallized at his first Luckenbach performance, when he invited his father on stage to sing while his wife and son watched from the crowd. It was the living representation of Blood Brothers: his past, present, and future singing together.
