Kalyn Beasley
Born and raised in Wyoming, Kalyn Beasley is the product of rural upbringing that included rodeo, horses, hunting, fishing, and wide, wide open spaces. “You don’t get any more rural than Wyoming, if that’s what you mean by country”, says Beasley. While attending Montana State University, “on a recreational basis” as he likes to tell it, he found his passion in music and a gift for songwriting. He formed his first band with rodeo teammates and began writing and playing around Montana and Wyoming. A move to Austin to explore a larger music scene ultimately resulted in the breakup of the band and Kalyn began writing more extensively and playing solo and songwriter shows.
Recognized as a true lyricist in his songwriting as well as for his entertaining performances, he’s able to draw the listener in with the humor and truth of his stories. Kalyn’s songs are meticulously crafted with clever and infectious ideas, melodies and hooks. “I write my own songs and tell my own stories. As a musician, poet, adventurer and outdoorsman my goal is for you to find a little bit of yourself in the songs I sing and the stories I tell”.
Kalyn Beasley now performs both solo and with his band, “The Honky Tonk Arcade” across the upper Mountain west. He’s opened for Chase Rice, Chancey Williams and Josh Turner and shared the stage with songwriting legends Kostas, Skip Ewing, and James Dean Hicks. His tour schedule includes appearances at both songwriter shows and larger regional festivals such as Red Ants Pants, Forget Me Knot and Harlow Music Fest.
Kalyn is set to release the first single off his fourth studio album, both titled ‘Ranchin’ Rich’, recorded early in 2025 in Austin and produced by Cody Braun of Reckless Kelly. “It was an absolute dream to work with Cody Braun and have some of the Reckless guys play on the record, I’ve been a huge fan of that band for a long time” says Beasley. Reckless Kelly has served as an influence for Beasley’s music not only in their unique adaptation of country and rock, but the very place they hail from, eastern Idaho, is not far from where Beasley lives.
Kalyn’s music is inspired by a patchwork quilt of influences ranging from the ever-present 90’s country of his childhood, to the singer/songwriter’s he came to know of his early 20’s. In college Kalyn started to dig into Texas troubadours like Robert Earl Keen, James McMurtry, Rodney Crowell, and Steve Earle. Ultimately the great Guy Clark became Kalyn’s biggest influence. “Guy Clark is my yard stick. He treated songwriting like a craft, like something to be worked on daily without concern for anything but the highest articulation of verse and melody”. With an eclectic and broad interest in genre, Kalyn’s original music can range from traditional country and western to rock, rhythm, and blues.
His 2022 album, ‘A Matter of Time’, was nominated for All Genre Album of the Year at the 2023 Josie Music Awards and he earned a nomination for a Josie Country Performer of the Year in 2024. The Wyoming Arts Council selected Kalyn as a recipient of the 2023 Performing Arts Fellowship.
An authentic Westerner, his life as a cowboy, rodeo hand, pilot, bookseller and outdoorsman has furnished him with a novel palate from which to color his works. “I see inspiration every direction I look. I grew up at the doorstep of Yellowstone National Park in the Rocky Mountains and I don’t suppose I’m moving anywhere anytime soon. I’m a westerner and the west is where I belong.” Kalyn makes his home in the high, dry mountains of Northern Wyoming, land of geysers and grizzlies.
